However, the expected rain turned to hail and soon destroyed all his crops which placed his family in an anticipated hunger throughout the year. Thinking about his God whom he knows would provide for their needs, the farmer then writes a letter to him which he sent through the mail. In the amusement of the postman and the postmaster, the former tried to correspond with the farmer but found the task to be challenging when he opened the letter and found out that the farmer was asking for a hundred pesos in order to re-sow the fields and to live by while they wait until harvest time. The postmaster then made his best to raise the money but was able to just send seventy pesos. When the farmer received his mail, he was disappointed when he opened it seeing it was not the full amount he asked for. So he made another letter telling God he just received seventy pesos and asking him to send the full amount of a hundred pesos because he badly needs it. Moreover, he asked the money not to be sent through the mail because the post office employees are crooks, thinking the thirty peso deficit was taken by them. <strong>Essay - Discuss and evaluate the most important reasons for a multinational enterprises decision to undertake foreign direct investment (FDI). 2500 words. | Subjects: Macro & Microeconomics - Undergraduate</strong>Essay - Abortion | Subjects: Miscellaneous - Ph.D.

Appearances in the works of fiction also help the readers distinguish between different characters. Appearances create impression upon the minds of the readers in such a way that they associate appearances of characters to their roles in a work of fiction.‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Charlotte’s Web’, and ‘Little Women’ are widely read works of fiction. The characters in each of these novels are described vividly and artistically, so as to evoke such images in the minds of the readers that the respective novelists wished to create. The appearances of characters in each of these novels are not only important for their characterization but also for understanding them in a clear way. Though appearances serve to outline the physical form of characters, yet it is capable of highlighting the real virtues of characters and their actions.“Beauty and the Beast’ by Jeanne Marie Le Prince de Beaumont was written in the 18th century. The title itself suggests the significance of appearances of characters. Beauty and the beast are described by their names and apparently both characters are antithesis of each other with regard to their appearances.Though the entire play is about the power of goodness and love, which are embodied in Beauty- yet the main element of characterization is achieved through describing their appearances. “His daughters were extremely handsome, especially the youngest- when she was little, everybody admired her, and called her the little beauty...” (1) For Hideyoshi’s army to mobilize easily to China, he had to pass through Korea. Hideyoshi deciced to claim Korea by conquest, but with the sole purpose of merely passing through and making the Kingdom of Korea serve under his rule. That expectation did not go as planned as the initially weak Korean defense stiffened as they became more organized and relentless. It is also noted that the Chinese Ming sent an army to support the Koreans in their defense when it was apparent that the Japanese really intended to make a push for China. This bogged down the Japanese’ first invasion attempt. The second attempt to invade Korea was far more brutal as it is noted here:His second invasion of Korea was more about saving face than conquest: he wanted to demonstrate to the Chinese that he did not fear them or feel subservient in any way. He also wanted to punish the Koreans for resisting him. In the first invasion he had hopes of winning them over, and thus had ordered his troops to treat civilians well so long as they were compliant. There would be none of this in the second invasion. Hideyoshi wanted the Koreans killed, soldiers and civilians alike, and evidence of the slaughter sent back to him in Japan. (Hawley, “The Imjin War: Part 2”)Though the Japanese pushed further in their second invasion attempt, the combined force of the Korean and Ming soldiers halted them, and much of Japan’s defeat was due to the skillful and daring capability of the Korean navy. When Hideyoshi finally died due to illness, the invasion was called off.Centuries after, there was the Japanese imperial expansion prior and during World War II. When Japanese Imperial Forces marched through Korea, they pillaged cities and committed murder on civilian populations. Many Japanese soldiers, out of cruel whim, took many Korean girls and women for their own pleasure. As such, the euphemism "comfort women" (ianfu) was coined by

Language disorders occur among adults who failed to develop normal language disorders due to childhood autism and hearing impairments as well as other acquired and development disorders of the brain. Language disorder refers to a situation when an individual experiences trouble in understanding others, that is receptive language, or sharing of ideas, feelings, and thoughts completely that is, expressive disorder. It occurs in both children and adults due to stroke or may lack unknown cause. Aphasia is one of the language disorders that arise when there is damage to parts of the human brain consisting of language. The condition results in problems with one or all of the conditions such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing (Ammons, 2009). Among right handlers, aphasia occurs due to damage to the left side of their brain. However, to the left handlers, the situation is halved. This particular ad shows a young woman who is part of five million women who had reached marriageable age at that moment. It contends that she should worry about her breath if she is to make the grade and get a husband. Through this ad and the creation of fear around halitosis, Listerine brought the painful effects of bad breath to young single American women, especially that of getting a husband and settling down. The ad is attempting to make life for young and single American women easier by making them a promise, which is that using Listerine will make them socially acceptable and attractive to eligible men. It seeks to maintain a consumer culture that Listerine had already created around the importance of good breath, especially for women. In this case, they sought to integrate Listerine into a culture that viewed consumption as beneficial to an individual’s happiness (Twitchell 40). The message is that women should strive to achieve good breath in order to charm and romance men. It also seeks to attract men to the fact that women should have good breath for them to be marriageable, which can only be achieved by Listerine. The idea of being attractive is that the young girls should have nice breath, especially when they are youthful. They also make the consequences of having bad breath clear to the young women. Those who fail to use Listerine prior to each date will suffer from halitosis, which will mean a life of boredom, loneliness, and being single (Twitchell 41). However, if they use Listerine, there will be good times ahead with a man they can attract and hold onto. The ad succeeds in making halitosis a fearsome condition of bad breath that nullifies all other charms. This paper explores the changes that the health care industry has experienced in the last decade and also assesses possible challenges the industry is likely to face in the next ten years. It is no secret that the health care industry has undergone through extensive change in the previous decade. The health care industry has in the last ten years experienced numerous ups and downs. The life expectancy of individuals has increased amazing compared to that in 1980s. There have been numerous medical breakthroughs both in terms of health equipment and drugs. The advancement in technology has seen health care delivery services become better each year, increasing the overall efficiency in the health care industry. The health care industry has grown from less efficient to efficient industry through technological innovations. Computers have resulted into massive reduction in medical errors. Health records are now processed and stored in electronic form eliminating massive paperwork and minimizing possible errors altogether. Competition has also heightened in the last decade pushing health care providers to fine-tune the services they offer to clients (Ginsburg, 2005).However, the industry has not been without its downs. The cost of health care has escalated over the years. It is now more expensive to obtain quality health care than it was ten years ago. The increasing number of uninsured indicates how expensive health care has become. Health care has become evidently unaffordable to many people over the last decade. Nonetheless, the government has been doing its best to curb this undesirable scenario. For instance, Obama care, though faced with numerous challenges, is aimed at making health care affordable to all people.Health care industry is likely to experience numerous changes in the next decade. Of all the likely changes, improvement in technology stands to be the biggest change in the next ten years. The well-known geneticist Gregor Mendel is known to have performed genetic manipulation in the 19th century which later developed into selective breeding practices. The reasons for supporting genetically modified foods are related to obtaining higher levels and better quality production of agricultural and animal products. This is required for combating human malnutrition and world hunger through increased and more substantial crops with improved nutritive values. On the other hand, the reasons for countering it are related to its adverse effects on human health such as allergies, besides hazardous inter-species gene transfer and potential negative environmental and ecological changes (Daunert et al: p.327). International trade and U.S. domestic politics not only deal with domestic regulation on competitive trade but also on the obstacles to trade that are presented by differences in related regulations of the governments of various nations. Firstly, the impact of foreign rules on U.S. agricultural producers is mitigated because, in the case of most crops, domestic consumption is given priority over exports. Secondly, the European Union (EU) is the third largest export market for the U.S., while the more significant export markets Canada and Japan have less restrictive approaches to agricultural biotechnology than the EU.

However, it also reduces the incidence of unwanted pregnancy, particularly where none of the parents are ready for a child (Prescott, 2011). The arguments in support and against the legalization of access to morning after pills without prescriptions have been a thorny issue across the world for decades. However, the use of morning after pills, even after legalization of non-prescriptive pills, has been hampered by poor education in its use and ethical issues facing pharmacies with regards to selling to underage girls. While most people have heard about the pill, they do not have all the information about the extent of its purpose. In a survey of 88 patients in a reproductive clinic, in London constructed to observe their knowledge on the morning-after pill, 65% of the women had heard about it, although only 19% were aware of its seventy two-hour limit (Haussman, 2013). While the morning-after pill has the ability to prevent a woman from pregnancy, it will only be efficient is taken after 72 hours orally following contraceptive failure or unprotected sex. In addition, it only works when the woman is not already pregnant. The pill is not an abortion pill and offers no protection against sexually transmitted infections like HIV. It is also not meant for use as a regular method of birth control and should be used for a maximum of four times a month. If a woman is seventeen years or older, she can receive the pill at a local pharmacy if they can present proof age through relevant documents. The pill contains elevated levels of levonorgestrel, which is an analog of progesterone that is found in majority of pills for birth control (Haussman, 2013). What is more, in accordance with Steinbeck, material well-being and financial security are among the most things for Americans, on which they depend a lot even though they regard themselves as independent, self-sufficient and self-reliant. Furthermore, among the characteristic features of Americans is the inconsistency of their behavior and their tendency to “function by paradox”, which means that they themselves cancel their rules and habits by introducing new ones (Steinbeck). Finally, Americans live in accordance with the American Way of Life despite the fact that nobody can give a clear definition of what constitutes it and what it means. In this very paper, the way the commercials reflect the traits of Americans will be analyzed. For example, exposure to violence can desensitize young people to the use of violence as a means to conflict resolution. In the social sphere, carrying knifes and witnessing/participating in crimes can limit an individual’s ability to develop meaningful interpersonal relationships. There is also the danger of physical harm. Equally important is the fact that children who are exposed to violent crimes do poorly in school and hold little hope for a productive and fulfilling future for themselves. Further, such people can instigate the cycle of exposure to violence all over again when it comes to their own children. Hence, the subject of knife-carrying is of great sensitivity and relevance to politicians, parents and educators. Upon its successful resolution lie the prospects for a harmonious society. Therefore from the three levels of the job categories it shows that the ASM record the highest probability of job stability (Heneman et al., 2012).The promotion paths and rates are based on the staff at level 1, and 2 being promoted to the job categories in level 2 and 3. Consequently, the probability of SF being promoted to ASM is 0.05 and SP is 0.1 from the data collected. The ASM is to RSM with the probability of 0.1. Therefore, the likelihood of part-time employees being promoted to the assistant sales manager is high compared to the staff in full time. The promotion path is from the low-level employees to the highest level- hence it is not possible to promote the employees in level 1 directly to level 3 (Heneman et al, 2012).Transfer paths involve the full-time and part-time employees on level 1. The probability of being transferred from full time to part time is 0.1 and from part-time to full-time is 0.05. Therefore, the rate of transfer from full time to part time is high (Heneman et al, 2012).Demotion involves the assistant and regional managers whereby their rank is in the company. The data shows that the assistant manager’s rate of demotion to level 1 full-time job is 0.05. The regional sales managers are not demoted as shown in the data collected (Heneman et al, 2012).The staff in full-time category records the highest turnover rate of 0.35 a value of 35. The regional sales managers’ turnover rate is 0.3, 0.25 for part-time staff and 0.05 for the assistant sales managers recording the lowest turnover rate. In particular, the society has opened doors for women to conquer in vast areas while trying to support themselves and their families. Apart from taking care of their families, women now take part in businesses, leadership, and even the political arena. The capacity of a woman to decide whether to stay home with her family or to pursue a career is greatly impacted by what the society requires of them. It is with no doubt that a lot has changed since the earlier days when all decisions on money and careers were solely left for men. Today, educational opportunities are wide open for both sexes, and women are allowed to apply legally for practically any type of job. However, as much as women take up new and bigger roles in the society, they are still expected to take care of their families and homes. Generally, there is a notion that women are able to do it all. In essence, women are taught that they can be able maintain a home, raise a family, have a social life and manage their careers all alone. This results in a condition known as superwoman syndrome since it is theoretical impossible for a woman to do all this and still satisfy every aspect of her life. In fact, studies have shown that women who get help with child care and their housework are able to handle their work responsibilities more easily (Elliott, 47). By not delegating enough duties, women block their own path to career success as this makes their workload unmanageable. In this regard, women ought to choose where to put more emphasis between their families and their work. The society does play a great role in determining the kind of choices women make in terms of career and family duties. This essay stresses that for a long time the key areas of corporate social responsibility haves been the well-being of the company’s employees and the protection of the environment. The civil society and the surrounding community focus on corporate social responsibility. The idea behind corporate social responsibility is that companies should not operate in isolation and detached from the broader society in their economic processes. This implies that such views as profitability, competition and survival that traditionally drove business missions are slowly losing ground to corporate social responsibility. New drivers have come because of CSR. It is necessary to explore some of these drivers and analyze how they affect business enterprises. This paper declares that the government’s diminishing role in businesses is one great driver. In many jurisdictions, citizens rely on their governments to provide the relevant regulations and legislations for the delivery of environmental and social objectives among the business communities. However, over the foregoing decades, most countries have witnessed the shrinking of their administration resources and distrust of the regulations set aside. Consequently, companies have resorted to carry out their own exploration non-regulatory and voluntary initiatives for restoring their confidence to the communities of operation. Customers have increasingly developed an interest for accountability and responsibility assumption by business enterprises.

musicians over the past century, continuing even to this day, Duke Ellington is certainly worthy of inclusion when asking about the top jazz artists of all time. This brief paper will examine the life and legacy of Duke Ellington.Let us begin with some well known facts about Mr. Ellington. He was born in Washington D.C. on April 29, 1899. Unlike many black composers of his time, Duke Ellington did not grow up in poverty. Rather, he was raised in a middle-class area of Washington D.C. by two involved and seemingly loving parents. In fact, his parents were talented musicians as well, which lends credence to the saying ‘like father like son’. Naturally, Duke’s father encouraged him to learn to play various instruments from an early age. It is noted that, by the age of 7, he was already learning and getting quite good at the piano (Unger 75).As the story goes, the name ‘Duke’ was bestowed upon him because he was such a gentleman in all that he did, even from an early age. His parents encouraged him to work when he was a teenager, which he did, but his first passion was always music. It is well known that his first published song was wrote while he was working at a soda fountain in the D.C. era. The song ‘Soda Fountain Rag’ was written at the age of 15 and was noticed by many people in the area as the song that got Duke noticed. He was so musically inclined that he was offered a scholarship at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. As appealing as that was to him, and with his parent’s blessings, he passed it up to begin playing professional as a jazz musician when he was only 17 years of age (Unger 75).As the reader can already ascertain, Duke Ellington began to shape his legacy at an early age. He was raised properly by parents who nurtured him and helped him to foster his own love and passion for music. People in the D.C. area quickly figured out that they might have a child protege on his hands. He began to form ‘big bands’, which We built the front panel with the help of interactive controls and indicators. After the making of the front panel, we have given codes to each of the components of the front panel using graphical representations of functions in order to control the front panel objects. The block diagram helped us in giving graphical source codes to each component of the front panel. After giving the codes, we tested our programming and succeeded in getting the RPM and the voltage as expected. We made RPM control and target RPM in the front panel. We measured the RPM with the help of a box provided for the measurement of the RPM. Apart from the RPM measurement, we also plotted the waveform chart including amplitude and time. The device name, supply polarity, and the status are given at the top of the front panel, In order to plot the block diagram, we built a while loop in which everything was wired. The RPM control was connected to the target RPM with the help of wires whereas the waveform chart was wired with a combined signal. The combined signal was wired with the RPM measure and target RPM, and the RPM measured correctly. The w signal showed the loop condition in the while loop. A clean up code at the top of the block diagram, was wired to the while loop. At the same time, the device name and supply polarity were displayed at the left of the block diagram. In order to measure the RPM and voltage, we created a spreadsheet on MS Excel. A vertical line shown in the graph proved the direct relationship between the RPM and the voltage. In other words, when the voltage increases, the RPM also increases whereas when the voltage decreases, the RPM also decreases. To conclude, the purpose of this experiment was to control the DC motor speed and direction using NI ELVIS and Labview. After the completion of this experiment we were able to control both the DC motor speed and direction using NI ELVIS and

Essay - The American Holocaust | Subjects: Miscellaneous - Masters Consider a couple named Chet and Margorie that had been married for ten years. Oftentimes Chet is a very domineering husband and many times has hit and abused his wife because he believed she did not do an adequate job of cleaning the house. While it’s easy to consider that Chet is just a violent person, one must also consider what would occur if Chet had a janitor that did not properly clean his office. In these regards, it seems clear that Chet would not attack the janitor. While Chet’s exact motivations are not easily discernable, Jacobson (1998) indicates that spousal abuse is oftentimes linked to dysfunctional relationship patterns and modes of communication within the household. Markowitz (2000) also indicates that spousal abuse more readily occurs, or is deemed ‘acceptable’ as compared to public violence, as the abuser is able to rely on the abused person’s emotional or financial dependence to ensure they will not receive punishment. In these regards, the abused person is often unable to leave or inform the authorities about the abuse because they rely on the abuser for their survival. While the earlier instance considers spousal abuse, family abuse also occurs in other forms. Consider the instance of David and Marie.

Several factors can be considered to be behind the changing trends that have been witnessed and that are yet to be witnessed at the local and global scenes. One of the factors that led to the changing growth pattern of the economy at the beginning of the millennium was the introduction of the emerging market into the world market. The increased industrialization in various countries like India and China led to increased demand for various products in those markets. Business organizations took the advantage of the available opportunities to invest in the given regions. These regions were attractive as there were still cheap labour and availability of the raw materials for the production companies. The increased employment rates in those regions initiated the economic growth. There was a rise in the in the living standards with more demand on products like energy and food in the region. This demand surpassed the supply of the products thereby forcing the prices of the products to rise. This could be the reason that led to economic recession towards the end of the last decade. Another factor that affects the economic growth is the competition that is witnessed among different organizations in the global markets.

’s friends, Eliphaz, the Temanite, begins his counsel by asserting the idea that the innocent are free from suffering while the wicked face constant affliction. Eliphaz reinforces his opinion by presenting a vision he had in the past. Reprimanding Job, Eliphaz commands Jobs to ask for God to forgive him, while reminding Job of the potential benefits that would accrue to him if he repented (4.1–5.22). However, Job defends his remarks by referring to all his agonies and reaffirms his longing for death. Accusing his friends as a “deceitful brook,” Job challenges them to identify where he has sinned, and then proceeds to complain to God, asking him numerous questions (6.1–7.21).The second friend of Job, Bildad, the Shuhite, comes into the scene rebuking Job for his strong altercation. Bildad emphasizes that God acts justly, by claiming that Job’s sons perished out of their own wrongdoings. He recommends purity to Job so that Job can receive God’s Blessings. Bildad further argues that the wicked have no God’s support whereas the blameless shall forever remain in God’s grip. According to Bildad, God would restore the laughter and rejoice that had deserted Job, upon repentance (8.1–22). In his counsel, Bildad reassures Job that “God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers” (8.20). After Bildad’s counsel, Job concurs with him, but his main worry is what it takes for a person to be righteous before God owing to his wisdom and power. To this point, Job continues with his complaint citing God’s inaccessibility and holds that God annihilates the wicked and the blameless equally. Job laments about the absence of a mediator as his main reason to reach God, and lets out more questions to God (9.1–10.22). Job’s persistent complaint brings in his third friend, Zophar, the Naamathite, who rebukes Job for his harsh and strong words. He says that Job has faced less agony than he deserves, and should seek ways of casting Article - Reading response- base on the poem "Ulysses" | Subjects: Literature - Undergraduate

The companys employee base, including those that work for the companys franchises has reached 130,000 by 1998.In 1998, Radissons president Brian Stage, and executive vice president Maureen OHanion, has been contemplating major change in the companys operations in order to gain competitive edge. The two executives think of adopting a different brand strategy which promises higher quality of service across all Radisson hotels. Commitment to improving the service quality and achieving higher customer satisfaction is something that the two executives see that Radisson needs in order to secure its position in the industry. The companys service guarantee should be defined in the following manner: “let us know if there is a problem and well have it fixed- otherwise, your accommodation is free.” This shows the companys strong commitment to provide excellent service that if the customer is not satisfied, then the service becomes free. This guarantee does not serve to reward picky and troublesome customers, but to convince the customers about the message the company is trying to convey with regard to its commitment to improving service quality, similar to the following manner: “the company will try to do its best to please you, and if you are not pleased then well shoulder the fees, as part of the cost of your dissatisfaction.”In order to implement this, the company has to gain the support of the different stakeholders such as owners, managers and front-line employees. By knowing that a dissatisfied customer costs a lot to the company and may affect their interests being stakeholders of the company, commitment to customer satisfaction can be strengthened.Improving the companys service quality cannot be cost-effective without information technology. As stated in the case (Schroeder 458), the two information systems are key to

Assignment - Term Paper, Project Management | Subjects: Environmental Studies - Undergraduate Progressive era reforms had major contributions in the framing of the modern juvenile justice system. In the period from 1900- 1920s the nation witnessed various campaigns including suffrage movement, and campaign against child labor. Laborers fought for their rights and demanded eight-hour workday. Before the progressive era, children who commit crime were also imprisoned like adults. Child offenders were punished like adults. However, the voice of social and political reformers demanded a change in the society’s views about minor offenders. The psychologists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries who came up with new psychological theories cried against the hard punishment given for minor offenders. Reformers wanted a change in society’s views on juvenile delinquents. They put the idea of rehabilitating children offenders rather than punishing them like adults. In 1824 reformers set up the New York House of Refuge. Juveniles who commit crime were placed in the juvenile homes instead of adult jails. By 1899, individual states began considering the problem of youth incarceration and setting up youth reform homes. These reforms initiated the notion of juvenile justice system. These early changes were because of the conviction that society should not abandon young offenders, but should recover their lives by redirecting them in a different way.

When ABC launched it's comedy crime procedural Castle (Mondays,10:00 PM) in 2009, the show was seen only as a filler meant to keep people entertained while the writer's strike was sorted out. Starring the King of Cancellations, Nathan Fillion (Serenity, Firefly) in the titular role and the relatively unknown Canadian born actress Stana Katic (Stiletto, For Lovers Only), the show followed the adventures of crime novelist turned amateur detective Richard Castle (Fillion) who tagged along on investigations into New York's wackiest murders with Det. Kate Beckett (Katic). Using his often crazy and out of this world theories, the unlikely partners solve crimes and heat up the screen at the same time. Created by Hollywood writer Andrew Marlowe and produced by another Hollywood name director Rob Bowman, the show has consistently used Hollywood criteria production values presentation wise, and uses only the wittiest, and most imaginative dialogues to move along the plot for the crime of the week. Which, I later found out, was not as important as the romance of the show between the lead characters. Having aired as a strike filler, the show managed to get renewed for a second season and is currently running it's 4th over ABC and its affiliate channels. There must be something going for this show since it has managed to last 4 seasons and actually grow its viewership base over time right? The answer is simply, yes.
