A focus has been given on the type of research methods used in these articles and the suggestions one can gather from them in order to fulfill immigrants’ information needs via libraries. Various suggestions have been given for the practical decision-making by a library officer. The first article is about the information needs of immigrants and the sources they use in order to fulfill their information needs. Silvio (2006) conducted research on immigrants from Sudan and selected 24 youths as the study subjects. He used the qualitative approach for his study and conducted research through focus groups and interview methods. For this purpose he made use of semi-structured interviews and took the help of focus group technique as well to get deep insight into the research question. The sampling technique used for this method is purposive sampling technique. However, the second article by Burke (2008) took different approach in conducting her research. She used quantitative research method and used questionnaire survey for collecting data for her research. The participants were selected using data from Current Population Survey conducted by census of US bureau. <strong>Term Paper - The Tin Drum | Subjects: History - College</strong>Essay - Internal and External Stakeholders | Subjects: Management - Undergraduate

“The Namesake” was the second work of the author and was published in the year 2003. Initially, the work appeared before its readers as a novella published in the The New Yorker. Later on it was elaborated to give a shape of a proper novel. The novel “The Namesake” revolves round the lives of its protagonist Ashima Ganguly and her life and struggle to cope up with the American kind of life after her immigration to the United States as a young bride. The novel captures events and snap-shots dwindling between Calcutta, Boston and New York City. It captivates, explores and examines a conflict that arises from the souls captured between two conflicting cultures, beliefs and ideologies. This conflict builds up a very strong dramatic element for the novel. On the other hand, Gao Xingjian’s play, “Dialogue and Rebuttal”, published in the year 1992 captivates an interaction of the two strangers who have passed their night together and the novel explores the inability or the failure of communication to connect to each other pertaining to the barrier of language. Both the pieces contain a barrier that arises from the difference in culture, society and language and examines the attempt of the characters that are under continuous threat and conflict to overcome these barriers. In an attempt to overcome these barriers of language, sex or the language of body becomes very instrumental in both the pieces to express and explore the emotions and establish the connection between the characters. (Wheeler) Several peer-reviewed literatures suggest that using the OSS programs in many cases offers superior user interface and approach in contrast to their proprietary competitors. (Wheeler) Even with the above background review, many software users still are unaware of the very many user options that this utility presents. It is against this information that this paper examines two open source software (Neo Office 3.0 and Open Office) solutions as an alternative to Microsoft office 2010 applications. The paper examines the Open Source Software. The discussion compares the Open Source Software on grounds of the platform on which they are available, their affordability, available technical support, major features to meet the standards of a commercial product and arguments for and against the Open Source Software as a Commercial alternative to Microsoft Office 2010. Wheeler suggests that whatever the program, there are universal procedures for their evaluation.

Research Paper - Forensic Analysis of Personal Written Texts | Subjects: English - Masters The hybridization in art can, far from being damaging to either society, allow each of them to deal with the consequences of contact with a new culture, critique the interaction occurring between the two peoples in a way that would not be possible if not for such hybridization. One of the most common critiques of hybridization is that it comes from a negative place – a place of appropriation in which one society seeks to make another society subservient to its own by taking what makes them culturally distinctive and integrating it into the dominant society. This is especially true when societies regard each other as “others” and this “otherness” is one of the main reasons for interest between societies, as was certainly the case in Japan during the era when hybridization of art began (Meech 27). This brings up understandable concerns about issues of colonization, appropriation, and cultural destruction – all things that should be avoided. However, avoiding these things does not necessarily mean avoiding hybridization. Many works owe formal debts to other works despite the fact that they are incredibly original and do many good things to the world of art.

In the wake of the same, different cultures carry out different ritual acts in alleviating the effects of a loss and creation of resilience. Rituals play a great deal of functions in the life of a person subjected to the given tragedy. Medically, the rituals act as therapeutic step. There are several rituals depending on the society that is concerned with the issue. One of them is the funeral of a deceased person. Funeral as a ritual is carried out differently in the different societies. For instance, in the western world, there is usually a high sense of cultural differences and these would to a large extend be dictated by the specific culture. Funeral home visits with a casket among the western nations- a catholic wake as well as a Shiva among the Jews is some of the rituals. What function do these serve? One of the roles of a funeral and its sub-rituals is that it creates admissibility and appreciation in the hands of the bereaved. Latin America puts huge emphasize on economic integration since the inception of Latin American Free Trade Association and Central American Common Market in 1960s. In fact, the economy has undergone various structural changes due to the effect of a number of economic influences such as World Wars, financial crisis in 2008 and several ongoing civil wars. However, the internal economic development program of this continent has been uninterrupted by the policies taken by the economy such as import substitution by industrialization and public investment on health sector (Balderston, Gonzalez and López, 2000). All these factors have led the economy to experience population explosion. Moreover, as the education system and employment opportunities began to expand combining with enhanced social security, the economy experienced rise of middle class society in Latin America. The paper will explore the nature and determinates of economic growth and rise of middle class in Latin America, especially concentrating on the three biggest economies of the constitute such as Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia as well as possible consequences of such social transformation.Since decades, poverty continued to be the main challenge for the economy of Latin America. However, after experiencing a long series of stagflation, the population of Latin America started expanding and overtimes the middle class evolved in a major proportion of the population. The modern manufacturing processes for mass production of commodities and the necessity to create ever-increasing demands need to function tandem. I have seen many advertisements that appeal to my emotions and a want is created, which is not there before the contents of the advertisements begin to cast influence. Lasch provides the specific warning to the gullible consumer and he writes, “The American economy having reached the point where its technology was capable of satisfying basic material needs, now relied on the creation of new consumer demands—on convincing people to buy goods for which they are unaware of any need until the “need” is forcibly brought to their attention by the mass media.”(431) So I make it a point to ask a question to myself whenever I visit the super markets, whether I need this product? The two brothers sold the bar, along with the Harpo’s in St. Louis, Missouri and Kansas City, Missouri, in the mid 1990s. Since then, the bar has been owned by Chuck Naylor and Kevin Fitzpatrick, both local businessmen. Essay - FUNDAMENTALS OF FINANCE ASSIGNMENT | Subjects: Finance & Accounting - Ph.D. When ordering, you will not order partial cases. For example, if you need 8 No 10 cans, order two cases.Plan a one-day menu including serving sizes from the foods listed at the end of this document. When a food is portioned to be an individual serving in the list included in this assignment, use that as the serving size. For example, dry, uncooked cereal is on the list in single serving boxes/cartons that range from 0.75 to 1.375 ounces. If you use one of them as a menu item, the serving size will be the same as the weight on the list. For other foods, Table 2.4 (12th edition) in Food for Fifty or 4.1 (13th Edition) is very helpful in determining some serving sizes. For example, nearly all vegetables, which are typically portioned with a number 8 dipper, i.e., ½ cup, are listed in the table as being a 3 oz portion. This means they weigh 3 oz. This does not mean 3 fluid ounces. USE FORM 1 FOR YOUR MENU PLAN. Failure to use the form will result in a 5 point deduction. You will need to prepare a purchase order for the foods and ingredients you need to serve your newly planned menu to 50 people. Use the attached form, FORMAT FOR DETERMINING PURCHASE INFORMATION, Form 2. The list of foods includes the price. It will also indicate the size of an institutional package/case and the contents of the case.1. The rapid rate of change in United States causes a growing concern among government officials, the public and health professionals. I believe these changes are issues of concern and should be well addressed. A research dilemma refers to the “situation that causes a researcher to feel apprehensive, confused and ill at ease” (Wood and Kerr, 2011). In essence, a research problem is something that bothers a researcher and can only be resolved through research. In a research procedure, the recognition of a research problem is the most fundamental step. It is for this cause that the entire process should be dedicated to this stride. A research problem should be clearly stated. Aldrich and Wedgewood (1970) identify their problem as the identification of changes that affect the health of the youth and children. There is need to understand the forces that affect the health of the youth and children. In reference to Aldrich and Wedgewood (1970), this is essential as it permits the people to “anticipate the future and lead to a systematic health care program with adequate feedback and adaptability to accommodate the health needs of children and youth”. Such a research problem will help in changing the country’s social structure, economy, and technology. Personal Statement - plan of action | Subjects: Sociology - Undergraduate

Essay - Concepts of Criminal Law | Subjects: Law - Undergraduate Today, those preachers who preach in the same fashion are called evangelicals. They and some parts of the media exploit disasters. The preachers do it to frighten people- the media does it for ratings- all they talk about are wars, natural disasters and crime that seem to be running rampant in society and how they are signs of the “last days.” Christian evangelicals say that God sends a message of His displeasure through natural disasters. Yet many people question why a supposedly loving God would allow such things as devastating as hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis to occur. Edwards and the evangelical preachers of today answer that human lives are at the hands of God. They claim God is angry at the sin of the people. Edward’s “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” just like much of the evangelical preaching of today, was composed to put fear in many people who are in doubt of their faith and worried about the seemingly upcoming end of times.Edward’s uses some standard rhetorical methods to make his point: repetition, hyperbole, and parallelism just as many speakers have always done and still do today. The repetition of phrases such as: “As he that walks in slippery places is every moment liable to fall, he cannot foresee one moment whether he shall stand or fall the next- and when he does fall, he falls at once without warning.” In this sentence, Edwards repeats the word “fall” or “falls” four times. The word itself has meaning beyond just the act of falling in a slippery spot.

Racism as an individual prejudice or attitudes are too limited based on many reasons worth highlighting. For example, according to Omi, Winant as well as Jurik’s PowerPoint, race emanates from a social construction that is connected to one’s identity. Therefore, racial categorization is wholly influenced largely by political, social, and economic factors. Similarly, a focus on the individual prevents scholars from evaluating the wider perspective of micro and macro levels. In micro-level social relations, scholars investigate the various ways people interact with others in the society. Conversely, at macro-level social relation, understanding of the social structures plays an integral role in determining how collective groupings such as class, media, and gender affect a human being. Accordingly, aspects of social policy and discourse equally manipulate racial identities and human nature because they are attached to the material consequences found in existence. As a result, certain features are missing from individual attitudes such as the inconsistency of biological basis to explore the nature of race distinctions (Jurik, ppt. 2014, slide 6). Assumptions, therefore, are vital in understanding the racial concept both as a symbol of assessing the individual prejudice and formulating a larger conceptualization of race that surpasses the immediate environment.Conceptualization of race according to Omi and Winant is a manifestation that goes beyond a person. The scholars assert that race possesses real material consequences that are attached to a specific social construction. This social construction often ranges from ethnicity to class within the society and under a particular time frame. As result, in the ethnicity paradigm, the conceptualization of race is connected to cultural contexts. Essay - the transition from adolescence to adulthood | Subjects: English - Ph.D. It is essential that when one makes decisions, regardless of its difficulty or importance, that a person seek the counsel of two or more people for him to have opinions to weigh. Some may give poor counsel, others good and still another, something that seems wise but may not be applicable to the one seeking counsel. However, the presentation of other opinions would help a person see more clearly his circumstances and decide critically and wisely, considering his personal convictions and other matters or people involved in events one needs to decide on. In the absence of trustworthy counselors, an individual may resort to observing other people. With the help of modern technology, one can also get professional help from articles and blogs online that are informative and usually helpful because the issues are discussed considering that the writer or blogger has different audiences. The realization of the importance of art education for improving cognitive skills of students has encouraged educational institutions to organize and promote art activities for students. It has also encouraged institutions to promote art education in formal and non-formal settings. The significance of art education to improve cognitive skills has been recognized internationally. Its importance is evident from the fact that the Director Journal of UNESCO appealed on November, 1999 to promote Arts Education and Creativity at schools (Iwai). It has been proved through research projects that the introduction of arts as proper education can promote aesthetic development of individuals. Based on this study, educational institution can make arts education an important constituent of their system. It will improve the overall performance of students in schools. In simple terms of general usage, vulnerability can be denoted as the state of being exposed to hazards, risks, and stresses. When it comes to health-related vulnerability, poor health grade causes the entry into the condition of vulnerability.

Essay - Wal-Mart's Employees are Motivated to do Their Jobs | Subjects: Business - College Different debates have been advanced in an effort to explain racial thinking and racialism in general. Among these is the impact that the slave trade had on the commencement and advancement of racial thinking. Racialism is seen as the division of colour among the people of the world. It is also viewed as an identifier of cultural and social differences. Others view race as a creation of the human mind that developed in the post slavery era in an attempt to explain the social differences that arose in the society at this time. Race may not be real but racial thinking is, and it affects the way people relate towards each other, how some are perceived by others, and even government policies in some cases. People who are seen as members of certain races are accorded more privileges than others. Until only recently, in countries like South Africa, there were schools for blacks and schools for whites, different residential places for whites and blacks and jobs for black people and white people. Slavery abolition is seen as the starting point and a major contributor to racial thinking.2.0The Slave TradeSlave trade is defined as acts that involve capturing, buying, using and disposal of a person with the intention of reducing them to a slave. It also entails acts intended at capturing an individual with the aim of selling them or exchanging them, trading in them and transporting them. Article four of ‘The Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ says that no person should be held as a slave and that slavery should be discouraged in all its forms (Bales, 1999). For instance, in the lives of Muslims, the use of the veil and hijab among women, has changed from time to time as they tried to survive in their communities. Along with this change was also the obvious adaptation in the commonly used English language. Such changes in the use of the veil and hijab as well as the English language will be discussed in more detail in the following paragraphs. In our world today, it is not uncommon to hear Muslim women being terrorized by non-Muslims saying that they are terrorists. For example, in the speech of Hafsah Badru Amirah, president of Muslim Students Society in Nigeria during the World Hijab Day in February, she reminded her audience that one of the reasons for the celebration is in remembrance of a Muslim woman stabbed to death in a German court for no other reason than wearing a hijab (Amirah). Hebah and Sarah, sisters from a Muslim family who migrated to America from Egypt, tell about their experiences about using the veil and hijab. They share about how people have always been fascinated by their way of dressing and how they have been threatened by strangers simply by the way they looked. For the non-Muslim who feels threatened by the presence of a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, it should be understood that such fear is also felt by the woman inside the strange costume. Nevertheless, that is not always the case so Muslims now have differing opinions about their traditional clothing. For Hebah and Sarah, it is not a statement of their religion but it is their desire to obey Allah that they use hijab even in the face of dangers. However, in a world where they feel their sexuality is abused in a male-dominated workplace like in the case of Hebah, she feels the need to use the hijab as her way of saying, “I am a respectable woman” (Ali). Although there are Muslim women like Hebah and Sarah who would rather suffer the consequences of using

Toyota overhauled its safety practices a few years ago after a spate of recalls for unintended acceleration resulted in a criminal penalty in March of $1.2 billion. General Motors has in recent past spent billions of dollars fixing recalled cars and setting up a fund to compensate ignition-switch accident victims and their families, the company has had to take extreme measures to restore trust in its products and management (Bapuji, 2012).In the period between 1999 and 2011, Toyota Motor Corporation had to recall some of its vehicles from the United States market in three instances. The first two instances came under the assistance of the U.S National Highway Traffic Safety Administration upon receiving reports a large number of vehicles from the company were experiencing unintended acceleration. The first recall was aimed at correcting a possible incursion. The second recall was due to a possible sticking of the accelerator pedal that led to unintended acceleration. The recall impacted negatively on the company as it came at a time when it was struggling from recession and it had also suffered from a decrease in sales in the previous year. The period was also marked by a low exchange rate of the U.S dollar against the Yen. This further led to loss of about 750 jobs at the company in its bid to lower its operating costs. The company may also have been economically affected by the recall as the damage to Toyotas reputation negatively affected the resale value of used cars. The company was able to overcome the situation by making the necessary correction on the recalled vehicles. It further ensured that the new cars that were in the production process were well checked and corrected so that they could not be recalled back. The United States government then allowed the sale of the company’s vehicles into the country after they had done all the necessary inspection to ensure that the problems were well taken care of.Another case of recall The organization further aims at popularizing shooting sports, enhancing safety training, and, as its leadership states, defend the US constitution, largely by defending the right of Americans to own guns (National Rifle Association, par. 1). Some of the political reasons why the NRA retains its stranglehold over the proponents for tougher gun legislation are described below. This term is widely used in economics and political science to imply lack of collective efforts by proponents of an agenda to push their scheme to required success. According to De Mesquita and Ludwig (par 3), the proponents of tougher legislation on gun control are more in number than the opponents. The opponents are mainly NRA members, most with licensed guns and willing to retain them. However, the proponents do not have as much will to fight collectively for gun control, since they have relatively lesser to lose even when guns are available to people with questionable backgrounds (Harcourt 15).The public does not have a common opinion over whether the NRA plays an extremely assertive role in protecting gun owners, even when the many defeats to alternative legislation have formed a lens through which opinion makers have been trying to portray the association. According to a Pew Poll conducted in May 2013, the percentage of respondents who believed the NRA was either applying the correct amount or too little pressure comprised 53% of the sample. The problem is sustaining the interests of the larger less concerned population so that their feelings do not wane over time. The NRA appears to have learnt this trend, and it has been using it successfully in its favor. Drake (par 5) and The Center for Public Integrity (par 3) also alluded to the fact that the majority, noisier population without guns has been particularly reluctant to sustain interest in fighting gun violence. States and dominions have diverse policies and programs with respect to the health care targets of their societies in terms of population growth. In any country, the system of healthcare is established in order to fulfill the health needs and requirements of the target population and thus, the exact configuration of this system varies from one country to another (Kaplan & Esther, 2003).Every organization possesses its own professional and occupational differences which are based on the culture of the country, organization, or on the nature of the job description. Some students may be suffering from lack of attention at home, divorce of parents, or a need for attention from their teacher. The students who misbehave in class need a structured classroom management plan to assist with their behavior and learning. Students are normally attentive when the classroom lesson is presented in stimulating and insightful ways. Group interaction is an excellent way to manage students who misbehave in the classroom. The classroom management plan should include solutions for resolving issues with students who misbehave- the lessons should be presented in ways that creates interactions between the students and the teacher. A classroom management plan is an organized plan that assists the teacher in managing his or her classroom. Classroom management plans are designed in various forms, such as computer-aided instruction, student groups, or student interaction with the teacher. The change has to first start from the self and then alone can we try to change people and things around us. Our role in creating change starts with the change within us. The mind works based on past experiences and knowledge. The mind is the most powerful agent and if the mind-set can be changed, change is smooth. However, human beings resist change because they fear the unknown. They would like to adhere to what has been the practice and are reluctant to adopt something better. Change within can occur only when we understand the benefits of change, when we have the ability or the knowledge to understand the benefits of change. This requires effective communication. We can bring change to the world through effective communication. Communication encompasses much more than simply talking. It requires the skill, it requires patience to listen. Listening enhances understanding between people- listening enables us to know one another- it helps extend compassion to those in need. Communication should not create rumors or lead to distortion of facts. Meg Wheatley emphasizes on simple honest conversation (pg. 3) where each individual has a chance to speak, the chance of being heard. Communication has the power to move the world, says Meg. We built the front panel with the help of interactive controls and indicators. After the making of the front panel, we have given codes to each of the components of the front panel using graphical representations of functions in order to control the front panel objects. The block diagram helped us in giving graphical source codes to each component of the front panel. After giving the codes, we tested our programming and succeeded in getting the RPM and the voltage as expected. We made RPM control and target RPM in the front panel. We measured the RPM with the help of a box provided for the measurement of the RPM. Apart from the RPM measurement, we also plotted the waveform chart including amplitude and time. The device name, supply polarity, and the status are given at the top of the front panel, In order to plot the block diagram, we built a while loop in which everything was wired. The RPM control was connected to the target RPM with the help of wires whereas the waveform chart was wired with a combined signal. The combined signal was wired with the RPM measure and target RPM, and the RPM measured correctly. The w signal showed the loop condition in the while loop. A clean up code at the top of the block diagram, was wired to the while loop. At the same time, the device name and supply polarity were displayed at the left of the block diagram. In order to measure the RPM and voltage, we created a spreadsheet on MS Excel. A vertical line shown in the graph proved the direct relationship between the RPM and the voltage. In other words, when the voltage increases, the RPM also increases whereas when the voltage decreases, the RPM also decreases. To conclude, the purpose of this experiment was to control the DC motor speed and direction using NI ELVIS and Labview. After the completion of this experiment we were able to control both the DC motor speed and direction using NI ELVIS and

Coursework - Role of Law in Society | Subjects: Sociology - Ph.D. From the discussion it is clear that Dutchtown High School is located in Geismar, which is an unincorporated area in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. This town has two schools, which are often ranked among the best schools in Louisiana. These are the Dutchtown elementary or Middle School and Dutchtown High School. The school environment is an attractive scene since the Mississippi river runs across the town. However, the area where the school is located is vulnerable to hurricanes and the tropical systems since the area is lowly elevated, and has a close location to the coast of southeast Louisiana. The town lies 23 feet above the sea level, which is slightly lower than most areas of United States. This paper discusses that Geismar in turn is located in Louisiana, a state found in the US, which is found in the southern region. The state of Louisiana is among the most extensive and populous states of the United States. This has contributed greatly in shaping the demographics patterns of Ducthtown High School in that the school boasts of a large population of students and teachers. Essay - Decision-Making Process Paper | Subjects: Management - College The concept of autism captured my imagination after Ihave watched “Raining Man” starring Dustin Hoffman as an autistic genius. The idea of the mental disorder which makes a person extra smart in certain issues, such as calculating long numbers at once, and turns him in an absolutelyunadjusted to normal life human at the same time seemedvery interesting to me . After a little exploration I discovered that the film created a false stereotype and that the information regarding this mental disorder is far more complicated. It turned out that autism is even more spread than I couldimagine and that apart from emotional ignorance and savant skills it has a number of other attributes. Thus, in this paper I am going to explore the concept of autism and demonstrate that this diagnosis does not guarantee seclusion and isolation and that autistic people can even become professionals in certain spheres due to their extraordinary skills.Autism spectrum disorder is an umbrella term for a number of complicated disorders of brain development. All the impairments are characterized by problematic social interaction, difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication and routines in behavior. After 2013 autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, and Asperger syndrome were proclaimed to be one Autism spectrum disorder. The history of autism is long and controversial andbegins with legends and tales about the children who were left by elves instead of the stolen, extraordinary good memory.

Bi-polar disorder is “a situation where a person presents a given mood at a particular point in time and then shows another mood in different point in time due to conditions that are not linked to substance abuse” (Vieta, 2012, p. 4). One of these moods is considered normal, whereas another is either depressive or shows some degree of negative mental thoughts or ideas.Psychoanalysis applies a multidisciplinary approach to deduce the condition of a patient and come up with a solution that can help the patient to overcome his or her mental challenges in bipolar disorders (Fonagy, Mayes, & Target, 2012) This

This town has two schools, which are often ranked among the best schools in Louisiana. These are the Dutchtown elementary or Middle School and Dutchtown High School.
